Outdoor FabricsFabric Care as recommended by OFPANZ for: PVC Coated Fabrics, PE Woven Coated Fabrics, Polypropylene Woven Coated Fabrics and PVC Coated Nylon/Polyester Fabrics Care instructions relate to PVC Coated side only of fabrics with PVC one side coating Prohibitions/Warnings Do not use solvents, abrasives, or harsh detergents to clean. Do not Dry Clean. Do not iron. General Care Instructions A regular wipe over with warm soapy water followed by rinsing wit cold water will remove normal soiling. Where a build-up has occurred, the surface should be cleaned with a soft brush and mild, non abrasive detergent, then rinsed thoroughly. Spot Cleaning/Special Treatments Mildew may be removed by wiping with a cold solution of sodium hypoclorite having 4% chlorine, in the proportion of one part in four to water. Rinse thoroughly with cold water. Polyester/Cotton Blend Proofed Canvas, Polyester Proofed Canvas, Cotton Proofed Canvas Prohibitions/Warnings Do not dry clean, avoid the use of soap and detergents, cleaning fluids or insecticides as they may damage the coating and promote leakage. If the canvas is machine washed it may remove any coating or waterproofing properties from the surface. Never scrub the surface. If stored or folded the canvas should be thoroughly dry. General Care Instructions Regular cleaning with plenty of water and a soft brush will remove most dust and dirt. Always clean from the lower edges of the fabric working upwards. The roof of an annex or tent may require regular attention to remove atmospheric fallout. Do not allow bird droppings, earth, sand or vegetable matter to remain in contact with the fabric. Spot Cleaning/Special Treatments For the removal of mildew or more stubborn stains, use a proprietary brand of mildew remover, or mix 1 part household chlorine bleach to 4 parts water and sponge in to the canvas. Allow 15 minutes contact then hose or rinse thoroughly. With age and use and repeated cleaning there will be loss of waterproofness. The canvas can be reproofed by using the appropriate proofing agent that is recommended for each type of canvas. Acrylic Canvas, Nylon or Polyester cloth (coated or uncoated) Prohibitions/Warnings Do not dry clean. Avoid the use of soap or detergents, cleaning fluids or insecticides as the may damage the coating and promote leakage. Avoid machine washing as it may remove surface coatings. Hand washing is preferable. For maximum durability use moderate cleaning methods. General Care Instructions Sponge or hose regularly. More stubborn stains can be sponged with a very weak liquid soap solution then hosed or rinsed thoroughly. Care instructions cover most outdoor applications. Spot Cleaning/Special Treatments In practise dry brushing using a SOFT brush followed by sponging with warm water will remove most normal soiling. After regular cleaning these fabrics may lose their water repellent finish. A water repellent coating can be re-applied by using a proprietary brand of fabric protector that is recommended for each type of fabric. Unsupported PVC Clear and Opaque (Tent Windows, Shower Curtains) Prohibitions/Warnings Do not dry clean. Do not iron. Do not use a stiff brush, vigorous rubbing or tumble drying. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Keep away from solvents such as petrol, acetone, or similar, which may attack PVC. General Care Instructions Vacuum regularly using low suction to remove loose dirt. Clean regularly with hot or warm soapy water and a soft brush, or lightly sponge down with warm water. Allow to dry thoroughly before storage or re-use. Spot Cleaning/Special Treatments Treat stains as soon as possible. Test on an inconspicuous area first before proceeding. Mildew may be removed by wiping with a cold solution of sodium hypochlorite having 4% chlorine, in the proportion of 1 part to 4 of water. Rinse thoroughly with cold water. Grease spots may be removed carefully by rubbing lightly with a soft cloth and some ethanol (ethyl alcohol). Baby pants, shower curtains, may be machine washed in some warm water (less than 50 degrees Celsius) with towels to provide the best results.
